College Level Courses Available to

Huntsville High School Seniors

1. GENERAL

1.01 Sam Houston State University permits outstanding Huntsville High School seniors to enroll in selected English and mathematics courses which are taught by SHSU faculty members at Huntsville High School. 2. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS 2.01 In accordance with Texas State law: a. Entering SHSU students subject to the provisions of the Texas Academic Skills Program (TASP) must take the TASP test prior to the end of the semester in which they accumulate nine or more college-level semester credit hours.

b. Students who are concurrently enrolled in high school and college must be treated like all other entering students with one exception: they are not eligible for remediation at the college level.

c. Students who do not take the TASP test during the designated semester will not be permitted to re-enroll or enroll in any Texas public institution of higher education except in non-credit, developmental or pre-collegiate courses until the TASP test has been taken.
 
 

2.02 In order to qualify for enrollment in the SHSU college-level courses listed below, a Huntsville High School student must: a. Be a senior in the top 25 percent of his/her class.

b. Have the written approval of the high school principal.
 
 

3. SPECIAL COURSE REQUIREMENTS 3.01 In addition to the requirements of paragraph 2 listed above, students who desire to enroll in English 164H, Composition I, must: a. Score at least 570 on the verbal portion of the SAT or at least 27 on the ACT.

b. Students receiving a grade of "B" or higher in English 164H will receive advanced credit for English 165 and become eligible for enrollment in sophomore English at SHSU. Three (3) semester hours of credit for English 165 will be entered on the student's academic transcript at the same time credit for a grade of "B" or higher in English 164H is entered.
 
 

3.02 In addition to the requirements of paragraph 2, students who desire to enroll in Mathematics 172, Calculus I, must have earned credit in high school pre-calculus.

3.03 In addition to the requirements of paragraph 2, students who desire to enroll in Mathematics 173, Calculus II, must have passed Mathematics 172, Calculus I, with a grade of "C" or higher.
