STUDENT HEALTH CENTER ACHIEVES RE-ACCREDITATION
-January 6, 2010-
The Sam Houston State University Student Health Center has achieved re-accreditation by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Care (AAAHC). In 2006, the Health Center achieved its initial accreditation when it received the highest level of accreditation for a three-year period. In 2009, the department underwent the accreditation process again in order to maintain its accredited status. This process entailed a review of the department’s policies, procedures, protocols, and quality improvement activities for the past three years as well as an on-site visit to measure the department’s operations against rigorous nationally recognized standards. The survey report indicated that there were 435 applicable standards rated “Substantial Compliance”, “Partial Compliance”, or “Non-Compliance”. The department scored “Substantial Compliance” on 433 standards, “Partial Compliance” on two standards, and “Non-Compliance” on zero standards. These results again earned the Student Health Center the highest level of accreditation for a three-year period.
"We are very proud of what we do at the Student Health Center. Accreditation provides external recognition of the department’s efforts to positively affect the health of our students," stated Keith Lott, director of the Student Health Center.
Sam Houston State University is one of six public universities in Texas that have accredited health centers. The other universities include Texas A&M University-College Station,
Texas State University-San Marcos, Texas Tech, University of Texas-Austin, and University of Texas-Pan American.
Additional information regarding accreditation and AAAHC is located at www.aaahc.org.
