Does the Health Center accept insurance plans other than the student insurance plan?
No. It would be nearly impossible for the Health Center to deal with the myriad of insurance companies. However, we assist our patients by providing the records necessary for reimbursement.
Can others gain access to my medical records without my consent?
No. The Health Center will not release any medical records unless required/allowed by law or with the written consent of the patient.
Do I need to present my immunization records prior to admission to Sam Houston State University?
No. Sam Houston State University does not require immunization records as a condition of admission.
Does the Health Center treat my specific condition?
Please call the Health Center and ask to speak to a nurse. We will do all that we can to assist you.
Does the Health Center administer the meningitis and flu vaccine?
Yes. Each fall, the Health Center provides a limited supply of the flu vaccine to students on a first come-first serve basis. The meningitis vaccine is available through the Health Center. Call for price and availability.
What if I need medical attention and there are no available appointments?
Patients that call the Health Center at 8:00 a.m. can usually get an appointment by the next business day. If a student feels that they do not want to wait until an appointment is available, the Health Center can offer a list of alternative health care providers in the community.
What do I do if I experience a medial emergency?
Whether the Health Center is open or closed, it is imperative that Emergency Medical Services (EMS) is called during any medical emergency.
Can I fill a prescription at the Health Center' pharmacy that is written by an outside physician?
Yes. The pharmacy can fill any prescription written by a physician licensed to practice in Texas. Call for price and availability.
