NEWSHSU ADMINISTRATIVE MENU

Q: What is the NEWSHSU menu?
A: It is a replacement for the current SHSU menu. It provides increased security and departmental ownership of the tasks (programs).

Q: What is the difference between the NEWSHSU menu and the old one?
A: The old SHSU was organized by sub-menus. The NEWSHSU is not. The security information is attached to each task. Besides the large improvement in security and security documentation, we have made some internal programming changes to prepare us for the time (in the far distant future, I hope) when we will have to move our programs to a different computer, and we think that with the introduction of "personal menus" that the system will be easier to use.

Q: Who is the menu for?
A: The menu is to be used by everyone that uses the current SHSU menu.

Q: How do we get permission to use the new system?
A: All faculty and staff have basic task privileges. Special categories such as academic advisors, and academic departmental administrators are assigned permissions for additional tasks.

Q: Can we request programs be added?
A: Yes. There is a function on NEWSHSU to request permission. This will cause an e-mail to be sent to the "owner" of the task, who can then grant your permissions.

The "owner" will usually be the departmental director who originally requested the program. At this time only the menu program (SHSU) is changing. The tasks that you choose from the menu are not changing. New tasks that are added and tasks that require functional changes may be programmed to be portable, also. There is a help function that will display the HELP documentation. This documentation will be updated as features are added.
