What is Microsoft Communicator 2011?
Micorsoft Communicator is a conference bridge, Instant Messaging (IM), and online collaboration and sharing tool that will be available to all SHSU employees. Microsoft Communicator for Mac 2011 works provides real-time collaboration between people in different locations. People can collaborate in real time by using several methods of communication, including instant messaging (IM), presence, Web conferencing, and audio/video (A/V) conferencing. Contacts that a user adds to his or her Communicator account can include coworkers and, if authorized, associates on federated networks.
Features
Interactive Messaging Client
- Communicator contacts appear in Outlook e-mails and you can even start instant messaging (IM), without switching to Communicator. Additionally, Outlook email messages can be sent directly to contacts from Communicator itself.
- Outlook calendar integration allows your status in Communicator to automatically update.
Getting Started
Open Communicator
Enter your entire E-mail address
Check the box that says "Use my network ID and password"
Click Sign In
Messaging in Communicator
Your contacts will appear when you log in to Communicator
Individuals with green boxes are available, while red means unavailable. Yellow boxes mean busy
Double click on the contact
A conversation will open with that contact
Adding a Contact
To add a contact, follow these steps
- Click Add
- Enter the contact information of the person you wish to add
- You can specify which contact list this person will be in
- Other Options
- Call a contact
- Video message a contact
- Send a file
- E-mail a contact
Group Messaging
If you want to have a more than one person in a conversation, you can ivite other contacts to partake. Within the conversation, simply click on "Add" and select one of your contacts to join in on the conversation.
