The purpose of the Administrative team is to supervise the planning, implementation and operation of the University's information systems, including the computing and telecommunications systems. The Admin team provides support (payroll, personnel, budgeting, purchasing, reporting) to the other departmental teams:Systems and Telecommunications, Administrative Applications, and Client Support.

The purpose of the Administrative Applications team is to provide complex skilled analysis of business and management problems in terms of systems requirements. The team maintains and develops the programs that the faculty and staff access via the administrative menu system. Additionally, the team organizes and develops the programs that the students access via SamInfo. The majority of the programs are written in Cobol, and the operating system is Open VMS.

This team is responsible for the daily operation of the University computer network servers and client environment, as well as the installation and maintenance of system software on these systems. The systems include the Open VMS system (NELL), UNIX (UNX1), Windows, Windows NT (STORM) and the programming and maintenance for the Meridian phone system. You can find added information on the different servers that make up the SHSU network. Additional responsibilities are the management and operation of the campus data and telecommunication network, including supervision of the installation and maintenance of network computer and telecommunication equipment.

The UCS-Client Support department is responsible for computer training of faculty and staff, technology orientation for parents and students, management of the Computer Services labs, the Helpdesk, and the technology Maintenance for the campus. UCS-Client Support also handles the campus technology purchasing, software asset management, inventory, and media center design for the campus well as the creation, development, and maintenance of the Sam Houston State University web site.
