Software Licensing

All software installed on University-owned equipment must have a license supporting its installation. If the software is shareware or freeware the supporting documentation must be readily available if requested.

A license is required for each installation of software. Computer Services will provide the licensing for Microsoft operating systems and for Microsoft Office under the Microsoft campus agreement.

If a new computer is purchased it must be purchased with a copy of a Microsoft OS to be eligible for this program. All future upgrades will be covered under the campus agreement. Computer Services will provide licensing for all software installable through the Windows XP Program Installation Menu on Computer Services-maintained PC's.

Computer Services provides a licensed copy of virus software for University-owned Macintoshes. For a detailed list of University-licensed software please refer to the SHSU Computer Resources page.

Mathematica:  Information regarding the Academic Site License Agreement that exists between Wolfram Research and Sam Houston State, and the administration of the software.

The University has licensing for several other software packages that may be used on your University laptops, and also on your home computer if you are using it for SHSU business.

  • Adobe Acrobat 7
  • SAS 9.1.3 * (limited # of licenses available for students & faculty)
  • SPSS 15

To request a copy of the software:

  • You will need to send an e-mail to helpdesk@shsu.edu with your name, contact information, name of the software and the operating system (Windows XP or MAC) you are running. They will then contact you to checkout the software when it becomes available.
  • When you come to the helpdesk to pickup the software, be sure to bring your valid University Staff or Faculty ID card.
