Lab Reservations

Faculty and Staff members, as well as students, may use University labs for classes, presentations, testing, etc. Faculty may submit problems with lab conditions such as lighting, temperature, speed of connection, etc. to the Lab Manager.

Faculty may view a current calendar of labs reserved for instruction and should view prior to submitting reservations. Semester long reservations must be made via this form and emailed to schedule@shsu.edu. Reservations are scheduled on a first-come, first-serve basis. Labs must be reserved well in advance, preferably 2 weeks prior to the date you need it. Do not make reservations for more than a year in advance. All requests are now being submitted to the registrars office, and entered into the new Astra system that SHSU has moved towards using.

Sporadic (read: non-semseter long) reservations will need to be input through this link

If you would like to cancel your reservation, please send an email to the lab manager.

In the request the following information will be needed:

Other Information

Some instructions use specialized software. If the software you want to use is not available from the SHSU Installation menu, you can make a software request using the Sam Portal.

If the software is available, you should provide specific instructions to your students if you expect them to do well. You should include as much detail as possible, and most importantly, review your instructions BEFORE distributing them to your students.

A Note on Lab Assistants

Lab Assistants are staffed in the open labs such as NGL 200, AB4 203, and CHSS 130 to assist students. The Computer Lab Assistants staff is made up of students. Their role is to give general assistance, not to tutor. Lab Assistants are available to assist clients with computer hardware, software, printers, and other various technologies in the open labs.

We also staff Service Teams who are assigned to each building that can be called upon for help in a classroom or lab. They are skilled in troubleshooting audio/visual equipment, computers, printers, and other various technologies in the classrooms and labs. They also stock the labs with paper and supplies. The Service Team members are not available to stay in a lab/classroom throughout the reservation time frame, however, they can be contacted and can assist clients remotely, or in person. For assistance, please contact the ServiceDesk at 936-294-1950 or click on the IT@SAM Help icon on the computer desktop. Service Teams are staffed to work M-Th 8am-9pm, Fri 8am-6pm.
