  • Fort Hood Watershed Analysis  - Database for three catchment basins at Fort Hood, TX. The database includes real-time data acquisition from remote stream sensors for wind speed, direction, soil moisture, stream turbidity, etc. Data collected will be used for real-time stream monitoring and flood event analysis.

  • Webmap and Land Management System Integration  -  Development and integration of real-time, field-monitoring data, Land Information Systems data, and environmental data for dissemination via a web-based GIS system. Special applications of the web map include fire prediction, dig permitting, and ecological impact.

  • Mechanism for Landscape Change, 29 Palms Marine Base, CA - This project involves determining the relative and historical contributions that very rare flash floods versus wind processes have on the sediment deposits of the military training base. The focus includes the study of canyons, alluvial fans, and the analysis of environmentally focused management practices by the military. Remotely sensed satellite data, the use of 3-D analysis tools and GIS functionality are used in this project.

Faculty Research Projects

  • Dr. Jack Turner: Bighorn Sheep Habitat Model for Southern California - Development of a habitat model for the endangered Bighorn Sheep in Southern California. GIS data layers include vegetation, radio telemetry data, elevations, and slope and aspect analysis. Analysis is to use GIS database to determine likely sites for spring lambing.
