Southern Rural Sociology has been the official refereed publication of the Southern Rural Sociological Association since 1983. Following years of discussion and consultation with the membership, the executive committee, at its meeting in February 2009, unanimously adopted a motion to change the title of the journal to the Journal of Rural Social Sciences (JRSS). The executive committee believes that changing the name of the journal will encourage professionals from a wider range of social science disciplines and other disciplines related to “rurality” to submit their work for publication in the JRSS. JRSS will carry the subtitle of Official Journal of the Southern Rural Sociological Association to maintain disciplinary and associational affiliations.
The first issue of JRSS has been released and is available here. The new editors of the JRSS are Douglas H. Constance and Gene L. Theodori at Sam Houston State University. They are now soliciting manuscripts at JRSS@shsu.edu. For more information on manuscript submission, please see the Southern Rural Sociology submission guidelines.
