Dr. Walter Bennett
I was brought to Sociology by a shift of interest and study from how ‘things’ come to be arranged and the consequences of that process and structure (in my case as in the study of Geology) to an interest in people and the underlying principles that shape the “how’s and why’s” of social life in human society.
My current research interest has evolved around issues related to ‘correctional education’ and especially the teaching of sociology in those organizational environments.
As a ‘generalist’ my teaching interest has focuses on several of our department’s subject area concentrations. My special teaching interest includes Rural and Urban Sociology, Socialization as Social Control and Complex Organization.
My current University service, in addition to student advisement, includes Sam Houston State University’s Parents Association’s Scholarship Selection Committee and a committee member from the College of Humanities and Social Sciences for our University’s Faculty and Staff Annual Fund Campaign.
My current community service includes being a member of the Huntsville’s Youth Advisory Board and a member of the Huntsville Police Promotion Review Board.
