Awards & Recognition
Dr. Alessandro Bonanno delivered the Presidential Address at the XII World Congress of Rural Sociology held in July 2008 in Seoul, South Korea.
In addition, Dr. Bonanno has been awarded a 2009 Research Enhancement Grants for his research: "Social Factors Affecting Survivorship in Patients with Orbital Cancer."
Dr. Douglas H. Constance delivered the Presidential Address entitled "The Four Questions in Agrifood Studies: A View from the Bus" at the annual meeting of the Agriculture, Food, and Human Values Society meetings held in New Orleans, Louisiana on June 6, 2008.
Dr. Gene Theodori is now Past President of the Southern Rural Sociological Association. I delivered the presidential address titled “Modification and Adaptation in Rural Sociology” at the 2009 Annual Meeting of the Southern Rural Sociological Association, February 1-3, in Atlanta, GA.
Dr. Sujey Vega has been accepted to participate in the Spelman-National Women’s Studies Association summer institute, “Women of Color: Theory, Scholarship, and Activism ” 2009
Dr. Mary Ann Davis was elected to the Southwest Sociological Association’s Executive Council.
Mona Avalos won the Best Student Paper Award for her paper: Straight from the Public: Views on Deslaination of Oilfied Brine. – 2009 Annual Meeting of the Southern Rural Sociological Association , February 1-3, in Atlanta, GA. She also received second place honors for the SHSU Writing Center "The Measure of a Life" essay contest (Spring 2009).
