In the Blacksmith shop, we frequently give demonstrations about how to go about making your own nails, hinges, brackets, plowshares and other instruments necessary to life on the frontier. It was in a shop similar to this that Sam Houston's servant, Josh, earned the money to, after emancipation, send his children to school and begin a reasonably prosperous life as a free man. During the General Sam Houston Folk Festival, experts demonstrate creating useful and decorative accessories for the modern world.
