Deep Spaces-

Deep in the Woods by Terry Grant

The Deep Spaces exhibit, curated by Larkin Jean Van Horn, will show textile works of a common size interpreting the title theme at the Sam Houston Memorial Museum beginning on January 10, 2012 and running until March 11, 2012.

Fifty pieces will be showcased, the image above is one of the entries from the upcoming show. Please plan to visit the Walker Education Center's Exhibit Gallery on the Museum grounds to view Deep Spaces.

The public is also invited to an exhibit reception on January 19, 2012 from 5:30-7:30pm.

People's Lives: A Celebration of the Human Spirit features documentary photographs by Bill Wright, who traveled around the world, going to places off the beaten path, to discover the people of the world in their own settings. Photo subjects include:

Photographer Rick Williams has captured images of workers and work places in three diverse industries that constitute the three pillars of the Texas economy: ranching, oil, and technology. Working Hands: An Exhibition of Photographs by Rick Williams features forty finely detailed photographs that evoke a powerful sense of what it must feel like to engage in the work depicted, as well as the unique character each industry brings to the Texas landscape. Panel topics include:

Running for Office: Candidates, Campaigns, and the Cartoons of Clifford Berryman includes forty-four facsimile prints of exceptional pen-and-ink drawings that highlight timeless aspects of the American campaign and election process. Although faces and personalities change, Berryman's cartoons illustrate how the political process in our democracy has remained remarkably consistent. The cartoons provide relevant commentary and fascinating insight into the campaigns and elections of today.

Running for Office was created by the National Archives with the support of the Foundation for the National Archives and organized for travel by Humanities Texas, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
