A few facts about the Raven Rangers
|
|
Sam Houston's Raven Rangers was founded in Huntsville, Texas on February 10, 1988. The Rangers were previously known as The New Army of the Republic of Texas.
Our objective is twofold:
- it is our goal to actively support the Sam Houston Memorial Museum through the contribution of both time and money.
- we strive to perpetuate the spirit of the early volunteers of Sam Houston's Army and that of the Texas Republic and to preserve General Houston's legacy and property in his Texas hometown of Huntsville, located about 75 miles north of Houston.
The Rangers accomplish these goals by raising money through membership drives that allow the Sam Houston Memorial Museum to operate outside its fixed budget in order to continue preservation and upkeep of its historic grounds.
Members of the Rangers also take a more active role in assisting the Museum reach its mission by participating in several regional historic festivals and reenactments. The Rangers dress in period costume and participate in living history activities such as blackpowder demonstrations and a multitude of other frontier and pioneer skills.
If this sounds like something you'd like to do, fill out the application form and send it in!
