Sam Houston State University - A Member of The Texas State University SystemDean of Students' Office

What is Ask The Raven?

It is an electronic forum operated out of the Dean of Students’ Office for students to utilize to address your issues. Our goal is to help you, the student at Sam, resolve your issues or concerns or refer you to a person or office that can more effectively address the question or issue at hand.

Ask The Raven can include but is not limited to questions about:

  • Information on University services we provide for you at Sam
  • The location of University facilities
  • Rules and regulations
  • What to do if you are having a conflict or dispute with someone
  • Procedures such as dropping a class or paying your bills, etc.
  • How to get more involved on campus

Why did we choose “The Raven” for our logo?

In his book Sam Houston, James L. Haley states, “ A young Sam Houston became known in Hiwassee by a Cherokee name, The Raven, in that tribes cosmology a great symbol for good luck-but also, according to one contemporary source, a symbol of wandering” (Haley, 2002).
