Bearkat Alley
Bearkat Alley is Sam Houston State University’s official tail gate area during football season.  For every home game (and for specific away games) the Department on Student Activities hosts a variety of organizations and departments who “camp” out in a designated area at the North side of Bowers' Stadium. These groups cook an assortment of foods, which in return is free for all those who attend Bearkat Alley.  Also, different giveaways are distributed throughout the season, ranging from t-shirts to spirit towels in order to boost Sam Houston Pride.

Homecoming 2008
Homecoming 2008 will be a week like none other! Join us for “An ORANGE State of Mind ” all week long! We’ll open on Monday with our traditional Homecoming Kick-Off Rally where you’ll get the unique opportunity to meet your 2008-2009 Homecoming King and Queen Candidates. On Wednesday night we’ll sponsor a FREE carnival...Sam Jam! Make sure you join us because there will be plenty of free games, rides, food and prizes. We’ll close out an already fantastic week with a parade on Thursday at 6:30, and the football game on Saturday. Two hours before Saturday’s kickoff time we’ll start our tailgate party and you’ll see us again on the field during halftime as we crown our new Homecoming King and Queen for the 08-09 academic year. Firefest 2008
Firefest gears students up for our biggest rival of the year, the SFA Lumberjacks. This event includes a bonfire, professional fire works display, peprally, and various other activities. Come join the SHSU cheerleaders, dance team, Sammy the Mascot, the SHSU football team and more, celebrate this amazing event.

Tree of Light
The annual Tree of Light ceremony has taken place for the past 87 years at SHSU and is Sam Houston’s oldest and most cherished tradition. Each year, students, faculty, staff and the surrounding community come together to celebrate a time of giving. The ceremony began as an annual Christmas Tree lighting and has evolved into a campus-wide celebration during the holiday season.

During the ceremony, several different University groups perform including the SHSU Choral and the Orange Pride Dance Team. Student organizations are also invited to decorate the tree with an ornament. Hot wassail and cookies are always served and a canned-food drive is organized to donate back to the community.

iDrive is a designated driver incentive program sponsored by the Sam Houston State University Alcohol Abuse Initiative and participating Huntsville bars and restaurants. Click here to visit their website.
