Dear New Sam Houston Students,
Congratulations on your decision to attend Sam Houston State University! As you prepare to begin a new chapter in your life, we want to encourage you to consider participating in fraternity or sorority recruitment. Our Greek community is experiencing an extraordinary period of growth and continues to be a strong and vibrant component of the Sam Houston community.
The Sam Houston Greek community is proud of its history and equally excited about the future.
Hazing and inappropriate behavior are not tolerated by Sam, and today’s college student may experience Greek life for its intended reasons, not the stereotypical situations portrayed on television. Our fraternities and sororities are looking for men and women who will contribute to their organization, the campus, and the community. It is a balance of sisterhood/brotherhood, scholarship, service and social opportunities.
As Greek life prepares young adults for life, membership is an investment in your future. If you choose to participate in recruitment, you will learn more about the leadership and service opportunities within the organization, on campus and the inter/national organization. Many of the leadership positions on campus are held by Greeks. Fraternity and sorority members at SHSU donated over $70,000.00 to charitable organizations last year and participated in over 20,000 hours of community service.
We invite you to participate in the recruitment process. Being a member of a fraternity or sorority will bring added enjoyment during your years at SHSU. We look forward to meeting you in August.
Sincerely,
The Executive Boards of the
