What can I do there?
There are two programs to choose from:
- Merit Badge Day will be held Saturday, April 20, 2013.
- Troops who participate in Merit Badge Day can also choose to spend the weekend at Huntsville’s historic Josey Boy Scout Lodge.
How much does Scouts@SAM cost? What do I get for that fee?
Registration for Merit Badge Day is $20 per Scout. This includes:
- continental breakfast
- merit badge classes
- all-you-can-eat lunch at Old Main Market (off-campus courses will receive a box lunch)
- commemorative patch
There is no additional charge for troops who camp. See what’s included in the weekend campout.
Is a troop required to camp in order to come to the Merit Badge Day?
No. We’d love to have you, but the weekend campout is not required.
What merit badges are available?
Click here to see a list. This list is tentative until registration opens on March 1, so check back for updates.
Do any of the classes have prerequisites? Is there any additional information about the merit badge class(es) I want to take?
Prerequisite and other course information will be posted on the merit badge list (see link above) as it is announced by the instructors. The Scuba Merit Badge has special prerequisites; click here to see them. Check back frequently for updates.
Is adult training available?
Yes. We are offering Scoutmaster Specific, Texas Youth Protection Training, and online (myscouting.org) training this year. Adults can register online for these courses. There is no cost.
Do the classes last all day?
Scouts@Sam emphasizes quality of instruction, so most classes do last all day. We will offer three “drop-off” merit badges and a few half-day courses. Times will be posted on the registration page.
What are the hours for the merit badge day?
7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
When can I register for merit badge classes?
Online registration is available March 1-31.
Can I register and pay for classes at the event?
All Scouts must register and pay for their class(es) online during March. We cannot accept walk-in registrations.
Can individual Scouts register?
Absolutely. If your troop can’t come, you’re still welcome.
Each Scout will receive a record of his accomplishments before leaving the merit badge day.
Do all the Scouts who camp have to attend the Merit Badge Day?
Yes. Troop leaders should insure that all Scouts have registered for a full day of merit badge classes.
