Adam Key received his Bachelor’s degree in Speech Communication from Stephen F. Austin State
University, graduating in only five semesters. From there, he decided to broaden his knowledge of
several areas, earning a Master’s of Interdisciplinary Studies in the areas of Business, Public
Administration, Criminal Justice, and Business from Stephen F. Austin in 2008. He is a member of the
original cohort of graduate students from Sam Houston’s Graduate Program in Communication Studies
that began in Fall 2008.
Adam’s research interests primarily concern the incorporation of interpersonal communication research into public speaking and persuasion. He’s currently writing his thesis over the connection between the
ability to recognize momentary micro‐expressions (as on FOX’s “Lie To Me”) and persuasion.
In addition to serving as an Assistant Instructor, Adam is the coach of the Sam Houston Speech and
Debate team. On many weekends, you can find Adam traveling with his team to various locations across
the United States to compete in International Public Debate Association tournaments.
