SHSU SELF-STUDY

 

November - December 1996

• Appoint Director of the Self-Study

• Appoint members of the Self-Study Steering Committee

• Attend SACS annual conference in Nashville

January - March 1997

• Notify institutional constituencies regarding initiation of the self-study

• Consult with Commission staff

• Prepare for and host "kick-off" visit with members of SACS staff

• Begin making committee/subcommittee appointments

• Activate Purpose Committee

• Activate Institutional Effectiveness Committee

• Activate subcommittee for review of Conditions of Eligibility

• Develop budget proposal

• Begin formulating self-study plan

April - June 1997

• Appoint executive chairs of major committees

• Complete remaining appointments for all committees/subcommittees

• Continue to develop self-study plan . . . prepare for submission to Commission

• Review institutional effectiveness systems (planning/evaluation/assessment/ documentation) to determine whether they are adequate to support self-study

• Hold introductory workshops for all major committees

• Complete self-study plan

• Begin collecting data and request for additional data

• Begin formulating self-study manual

July - September 1997

• Develop and distribute writing/editing guidelines

• Collect, organize, and publish basic institutional reference data

• Continue expanding data base for all committees

• Activate all remaining committees/subcommittees

• Begin preparation of survey materials

• Identify and initiate activities for NCAA certification

• Select executive chair for joint self-study committee

• Arrange for orientation visit by NCAA certification committee

• Submit self-study proposal to Commission

October 1997 - January 1998

• Initiate NCAA certification process

• Review preliminary reports regarding institutional purpose and effectiveness

• Administer and complete surveys

• Review progress reports from principal committees

• Have appropriate representatives attend SACS annual conference in New Orleans.

February - May 1998

• Compile survey results

• Forward preliminary reports of principal committees to steering committee for review and action

• Complete departmental, unit, and preliminary committee final reports

• Continue committee work as necessary following Steering Committee review

• Complete and forward progress report to Commission staff member

June - October 1998

• Complete first draft of self-study report

• Conduct an institution-wide review of the draft of the self-study report

• Compile and complete the final self-study report

• Develop follow-up plan to the self-study report

November 1998 - March 1999

• Begin preliminary planning for joint visit by visiting committees (SACS, NCAA)

• Complete and distribute locally the self-study report

• Develop addendum to self-study report

• Send copy of the self-study report to the committee chair prior to his/her preliminary visit

• Arrange for and carry out preliminary visit by committee chairs

• Complete planning and arrangements for committee visits

• Mail self-study and other materials to committee members and Commission on Colleges

• Have appropriate representatives attend SACS annual conference in Atlanta

• Inform the institutional community of the purpose and activities of the visiting committees while on campus

• Host the visiting committees on campus

April - October 1999

• Review draft of visiting committee report for errors of fact

• Receive and respond to recommendations cited in the final visiting committees' reports

• Implement plan for follow-up on all non-criteria related recommendations stemming from the self-study process
