Human Subjects Troubleshooting

Are you using a windows based PC with Microsoft Office 2003?

  • No (Program requires this type of software so go to one of the campus computer labs)
  • Yes

Are you trying to apply from off campus?

  • No
  • Yes (Check to see that your user name and password is the same that you use to access SHSU email including domain (i.e. SHSU/STD…))

Are you able to access the first page?

  • No (Check to see that your user name and password is the same that you use to access SHSU email including domain (i.e. SHSU/STD…))
  • Yes

Have you registered by clicking on the link in the upper right hand corner of the main page?

  • No (Do this the page may blink once.)
  • Yes

When you click to begin a new application does it open?

  • No (Check to see that you have Microsoft Office 2003 installed and updated including its Infopath application)
  • Yes

When filling out the PI information does your name appear in the drop down list?

  • No (Check the other classifications "Faculty", "Staff" and "Student" and see if it appears in the drop down list. If your name does not appear or it appears under the wrong category, contact Trisha Allen at either trishaallen@shsu.edu or (936) 294-3876.
  • Yes

IRB Instructions

Complete HPPERT certification.  A copy of the certificate must be received in our office prior to starting an IRB application.  This process will take about 2-3 hours to complete, but you can bookmark your spot and come back at any time to complete.  The certificate can be faxed to our office at 936.294.3622. To complete an IRB application, these are the steps:

 

First, go to the SHSU website, click on the Research link under News & Information.

Once you have the ORSP link opened, click on the top left hand link, it will direct you to the Protection of Human Subjects website.

 

Click on “Click here to register” link.  Once successfully registered, the page will read, “You have successfully registered, please click below to return.”  So click and you will be taken back to the Protection of Human Subjects website.  If you get an error message, then you can call the ORSP office at 936.294.3621 and give us the following information and we can manually get you registered:  Legal name (this is the name as you are registered at SHSU), your SHSU email, and a phone #. 

Click on Begin New Application, scroll down to the bottom of the page and either click on Start a Classroom Research Form or Start a Research Application. 

If at anytime, it prompts you for a user name and password, just simply type in shsu\ in front of your user name and then your password on the second line.

 

Classroom Research is for students who are taking a methods of research course and are doing “classroom research.”

Research Application is for students who are doing their Thesis/Dissertation and for Faculty members who are conducting Research whether it be for a grant or for their class.
