APPLICATION FOR DEGREE



**Fall 2013 Application for Degree Notice**

Online Application for Degree through MySam is currently open.

How to Apply

The Fall 2013 deadline for students to submit their application is 5PM on Friday, September 13th.

Students who submit their applications after the deadline will be assessed an additional $25 late fee, for a total fee of $60. Graduation applications received after Friday, November 1, 2013, will not have their names listed in the commencement program.

Students are encouraged to verify their name and address by visiting the Diplomas - Name and Address page.


The Application for Degree is required in order to have a degree posted to you academic transcript and for you to participate in the commencement ceremony. The application and the application fee should be submitted in the term you plan to graduate. The application must be on file with the Office of the Registrar at least one week prior to the commencement ceremony for that term in order to have a degree posted to the academic transcript.

Online Applications will not be accepted after 5 p.m. on December 6, 2013, for Summer 2013.  If you need to apply for graduation the week before commencement, you will need to so with a hard copy application that must be submitted via fax or scanned and emailed to ask.regstaff@shsu.edu.

Name Changes

If you wish to make an official change of name with the university, please submit the Official Change of Name form and include the include the proper documentation with the form (i.e.: Driver's License, or Marriage License, or Certificate of Divorce). This Change of Name will need to be submitted to the Payroll Office located in the College of Humanities Building.

When requesting a Change of Name after submission of the Application for Degree, submit the form directly to the Registrar's Office. You may submit the form to the Registrar's Office by fax at 936-294-1737, or you may deliver it in person to the Registrar's Office located on the 3rd floor of the Estill Building on campus.

All correspondence regarding your graduation status will only be sent via e-mail to the primary e-mail address you have on file with the university. In order to receive timely notifications regarding your graduation status, it is important to file by the application deadline listed below. The Office of the Registrar will only send students who have applied e-mail concerning their graduation status and information concerning commencement.

Application for Degree Information:

Students are encouraged to apply by the published deadline dates to avoid paying the late fee for the application. Late applications are accepted through the week prior to the commencement date, but a late fee is charged.

Degree Application fees do NOT roll forward to future graduation terms.

NOTE: The graduation application fee will change from $30.00 to $35.00, effective spring semester 2013.

Degree Application Fees:

The following fees must be paid at the time of Application for Degree:

  • Students seeking their bachelor degrees will pay a fee of $35.00.
  • Students seeking their master’s degrees will pay a fee of $35.00.
  • Students seeking their doctoral degrees will pay a fee of $35.00.

Payment is due upon application. You will be able to pay either by ACH, Pin-less debit, or Credit card (American Express, Discover, or MasterCard).

Late fee: Students submitting Applications for Degree after the set deadline date will be subject to pay the late fee of $25.00 in addition to the set fees indicated above.

Late Applications for Degree will be accepted after the set deadline date, but no later than one week prior to the scheduled commencement ceremony.

Students who submit Applications for Degree after the names have been submitted to the press for the commencement program will NOT have their names appear in the program. The names of degree candidates are provided to the press well in advance of the commencement ceremony date. It is best to submit your Application for Degree by the set deadline date.

Students will not be permitted to postpone their Applications for Degree to a future term. A new Application for Degree will be required and payment of fees will NOT transfer forward.

What does my degree application fee cover?
The degree application fee covers the cost of printing your diploma, the diploma tube received at commencement, postage expense, as well as other costs incurred to host a commencement ceremony. 

How do I order my custom SHSU cap and gown?
Bachelor’s and master’s students who complete the Degree Application must submit their cap and gown size information to Herff Jones by the established deadline. Regalia will be delivered to the SHSU University Bookstore for pick up. 

Doctoral degree candidates can contact the SHSU University Bookstore to arrange rental or purchase of graduation regalia.

Applying after the published Application for Degree deadline dates might hinder your name from appearing in the commencement program. It is best to apply by the published deadline dates. The commencement program is sent to press approximately six weeks prior to the commencement ceremony.

Application fees will not be permitted to roll forward to a future semester. Students must submit a new application for degree with the application fees that apply at the time of application.

Students who do not meet degree requirements in the term for which their application is filed, will be required to re-apply for the next available graduation date and will be required to pay another  application fee.

 

Note: Students who have submitted an Application for Degree for a specific term and are enrolled in all required courses that term to complete degree requirements will be permitted to participate in the commencement ceremony of their major at the conclusion of that term. Students who are deficient more than 9 grade points in major, minor, or overall will NOT be permitted to participate in the commencement ceremony.

  • Will I be required to submit another Application for Degree and pay the application fee if I participate in the ceremony but do not complete my degree requirements by the deadline date?

Yes, students who do not meet degree requirements will be required to re-submit an Application for Degree and pay the applicable fee for the term in which they complete degree requirements.
