Dr. Wally Barnes

Dr. Wally Barnes has an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership and is the Director of the SHSU Reading Center. His long and illustrious teaching career has been devoted to helping students develop reading strategies and the self-confidence to become proficient readers and lifelong learners. He also has an M.Ed. in Reading and holds several certifications: Reading Specialist, Elementary Reading, Secondary Reading, Multisensory Reading for Dyslexia, English as a Second Language, and Learning Resource Specialist (Librarian). Dr. Barnes’ areas of expertise include working with developmental reading students, pre-service teacher candidates, and international students, and presenting textbook reading strategies to all students.
Dr. Rojas-LeBouef
Dr. Ana Rojas-LeBouef has an Ed.D. in Reading and is the Literacy Specialist at the SHSU Reading Center. Before coming to SHSU, Dr. Rojas-LeBouef had over 10 years of exemplary teaching experience in elementary and postsecondary schools across Texas. She is fluent in both Spanish and English and holds certifications in Bilingual Education and English as a Second Language. Dr. Rojas-LeBouef’s areas of specialization include assisting postsecondary developmental reading students become more proficient readers, assisting pre-service teacher candidates with test taking and comprehension strategies, and assisting international students in all areas of literacy development.
Kristi

Kristi is a Graduate Assistant at the Reading Center and is currently working on her master’s degree in Counseling Education. She has been a member of the Reading Center family for approximately three and a half years, and looks forward to each opportunity to help others succeed. Kristi can assist international students with pronunciation, comprehension, and also helps students with reading strategies and comprehension. Kristi can also help with graduate level entry tests such as the TOEFL, SAT, and GRE.
Ian
Ian is a graduate assistant at the Reading Center and is on course to receive M.A. in counseling here at Sam. Previous to joining the Reading Center team, Ian worked in business for 2 years and was an elementary educator and high school basketball coach for 6 years, who took the time to try and help all of his students achieve academic success. He looks forward to, and appreciates, every opportunity to help fellow students reach their academic goals. Ian is available to help all students with study planning, textbook reading strategies, and test preparations (GRE, LSAT, and some teacher certification exams), and international students with comprehension, pronunciation, and fluency.
Tiffany

My name is Tiffany Ha and I am currently studying Education here at Sam Houston State. My hometown is Cypress, Texas and graduated from Cy-Fair high school. I love Jesus, reading, sports, painting, and crafts. I am a very happy and positive person and I like to smile a lot. My future goals are to become a special education teacher and a missionary.
Julia

Julia is an undergraduate student worker in the Reading Center. She is completing an undergraduate degree in Accounting. Julia is available to assist international and developmental reading students with pronunciation, comprehension and other reading strategies. Also available to any students who need help with time management, textbook study skills and reading strategies.
Terra

Terra is an undergraduate student worker in the Reading Center. She is a junior at Sam Houston State, majoring in Biology and minoring in Chemistry. Terra is an avid reader, and she is available to assist international and developmental reading students in any area of reading.
Thilo

Thilo is a undergraduate student at Sam Houston and is majoring in management and marketing. He is from Germany and enjoys assisting international students with their English language development and reading comprehension. Thilo is available to assist international and developmental reading students in pronunciation, comprehension and other reading strategies.
Kashalon

Kashalon Sigers is an undergraduate student worker at the Reading Center. She will be graduating in May 2013 with a Bachelor of Art degree in Mass Communication Public Relations. Kash is available to assist with time management, pronunciation, and reading comprehension.
Teshawna

Teshawna Jackson is an undergraduate student worker that attends Sam Houston State University. She is a Senior, majoring in Marketing and minoring in Business Communications. She is able to assist international students and developmental reading students in any area of reading.
