New Science Building and Farrington Renovation

New Science BuildingThe Legislature authorized $18 million in tuition revenue bonds for this project, which includes construction of a new building and renovation of the Farrington Building constructed in 1959.

The 62,000 square foot science building currently under construction will be the new home for the Department of Chemistry and the Forensic Science program. The three story building will include classrooms and teaching laboratories for Chemistry on the first floor, offices and research and teaching labs for Forensic Science on the second floor along with two shared teaching labs, and offices, research labs and advanced teaching labs for Chemistry on the third floor.

As soon as the Department of Chemistry has moved out of the Farrington Building, renovations will begin in the vacated space and in other areas of Farrington. The Committee is currently working on the logistics of maintaining classes and laboratory sections for the Department of Physics as this work is being done. Current estimates are for the move for Chemistry to occur in August or September of 2005.

Visitor and Alumni Center

Visitors CenterDuring the project development process, the initial concept for a visitor center was expanded to include space for the Alumni Relations Office. This $2.4 M project, financed from fund balance, will ultimately fall under the direction of our new Vice President for Enrollment Management, Dr. Heather Thielemann.

Located adjacent to and West of the Estill Building, the Visitor and Alumni Center will serve as our new "front door". The first floor of this 12,500 square foot facility will house the Visitor Center, the second floor will house the Alumni Center and we will have our much needed elevator to the main campus level. The committee is working with experts on campus to incorporate the best and most interesting technology possible. We project construction to begin early 2005 with completion by the end of that year.
