| More about residence renovation |

PROJECT COST - $14.5 Million project funded with Revenue Financing System Bonds, issued by Texas State University System. This type of funding allows us to borrow the funds by projecting future revenues that will be generated with use.

This first new residence development since 1961 is an apartment style residence complex which is currently under construction at the corners of Bowers Blvd. and Montgomery Rd. The facility will add 509 new beds to our on-campus housing. Each student apartment will have a common living area, kitchen, bath and two single occupant bedrooms. The Complex will have a community center, mail, laundry facility and outdoor recreation facilities. There will be sufficient resident and handicapped accessible parking for the students who live there.

Sample Floor plan for Bearkat VillageThese 2 Bedroom/1 Bath apartment (2 students per unit) will be available to upperclass students (sophomore and above) fully furnished at $425 per month/per person, all utilities and local telephone service included . The amenities include: Microwave, Garbage Disposal, Dishwasher, Ceiling Fans , Clubhouse/Meeting Rooms and ethernet connections.

Sam Houston State University has decommissioned 911 beds in the past 10 years and believe that our lack of affordable, convenient, up-to-date housing choices have contributed to holding down our enrollment, particularly given our policy of requiring Freshman to live on campus. This carries with it a responsibility to be sure to provide a menu of residence choices and those facilities must be in line with our competition.

Construction is on schedule to be completed in time for Fall 2003 occupancy. Residence Life will begin to take reservations April, 2003.
