Serve in an internship position in a government, governmental agency, or non-profit agency under a staff supervisor. Duties will be as assigned by the governmental agency. Each student must submit a contract by October 2, if they have not previously done so.
Keep a log/journal of internship activities to be used to develop a 5 page paper explaining internship duties, accomplishments, and learning experiences. The journal is for your benefit only to help refresh your memory so that you can write the paper. The paper will be typed (work processed) and is due Nov. 27, 2005 at 4:00 p.m. Please give your supervisor a copy of your paper. A penalty of 1 letter grade will be assigned for each day the paper is late.
Inform your supervisors that their evaluation letter must be submitted by Nov. 27, 2004. It is your responsibility to see that the letter is submitted in a timely fashion.
General advice: Interns are expected to behave in a professional manner befitting an employee in the public sector. You are public employees with college degrees. Your dress, attitude, and demeanor should reflect well on SHSU.

Recommendation from Intern Supervisor
Make sure that your supervisor completes his/her evaluation form by Nov. 27, 2006. This evaluation is an important component of the grade. The form is available on BlackBoard.
Activity Sheets
The activity sheets are used to evaluate your knowledge and interest in the professional development activity. They are available on BlackBoard. These workshops are mandatory for interns. You may e-mail me the forms within 72 hours of the workshop.
Final Paper Guidelines
As you know, you must write a paper as your final assignment for POL 578. Write a 5 page paper that explains what you learned on your internship. Idenify 3-5 things that you specifically learned on your internship that will be valuable to you in your career and write about those.
Student Evaluation of Internship
You are expected to make a confidential evaluation of the internship. This information will not be shared, but is used by the Director of Graduate Studies to evaluate appropriate internships for future students. It does not carry a grade, but it's completion is a course requirement. The form is available on BlackBoard.
