Comparative Politics, Latin America, Ethnic and Gender Politics, Research Methods.
A recipient of the University's Excellence in Research Award, Dr. Biles focuses his research on women in Latin American politics, political behavior, inter-American relations, and Texas politics. He has done field research in Uruguay, Puerto Rico, Colombia, and Ecuador. On three occasions, he served as a Fulbright Professor in Latin America. In addition to numerous scholarly papers, chapters, and articles, he has published books on inter-American relations and on Texas politics. He has served as president of the Women's Caucus of the Southwestern Social Science Association, as a member of the local school board, as a party county chairman, and as a staff assistant to the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Biles is an avid fan of political novels, collects wood carvings, and coaches softball.
