The Paleobiology Lab is focused on the study of faunas and environments of the past, particularly those of southern Africa and the Southern High Plains of Texas. The lab uses a variety of methods in these studies, including multivariate shape analysis of teeth and bones, dental microwear patterns, and the chemical makeup of fossils.

The Lab is equipt to take digital images using both digital cameras and zoom microscopes with digital camera attachments. A variety of calipers are also used to collect morphometric data on larger specimens.

We are able to prepare fossil specimens using the air scribe or air eraser, as well as many smaller hand tools and chemicals. Once prepared, we can use several different methods and materials to mold and cast specimens.
