Backroom Curiosities: an exhibit in the Katy and E. Don Walker Sr. Education Center Exhibit Gallery. Curated museum staff member Casey Roon, the exhibit displays items rarely seen by the public from our backrooms, including pictures, furniture, dresses, quilts and an examination table. The exhibition can be viewed Tuesday through Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and on Sunday, from noon to 4:30 p.m. For more information, contact Megan Buro, museum marketing coordinator, at 936.294.3839 or on Facebook.

Summer degree applications, for students who anticipate graduating in August, are due by 5 p.m. in the Registrar's Office, on the third floor of the Estill Building.

Last day to drop without a "Q" and receive a 100 percent refund.

Flower Pounding for Kids and Adults: a Sam Houston Memorial Museum demonstration and activity, from 9 a.m. to noon at Bear Bend Cabin, on the museum grounds. Flower pounding involves hitting flowers and leaves to create art. All ages are welcome; children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult to participate in the activity. Demonstrations will run from 9 a.m. to noon, starting every half hour. Participants are requested to bring a hammer, if you have one. A $5 recommended donation per person. Log Cabin Construction Part I—From Ax and Tree to Pioneer Home: a Sam Houston Memorial Museum presentation, from 9 a.m. to noon at Bear Bend Cabin, on the museum grounds. Museum staff will investigate the techniques of pioneer architecture at the cabin built in the 1850s using axes, adzes and woodworking. Bear Bend Cabin is a classic double pen, two-story log cabin with a central dog trot featuring two differing notching styles. A $5 recommended donation per person. King Cotton—Carding, Cleaning, Spinning and Weaving Cotton: a Sam Houston Memorial Museum presentation and demonstration, from 9 a.m. to noon at the museum grounds. Museum staff will explore the time when cotton was king in Texas by teaching museum visitors all about growing and processing the plant. The demonstration will include picking cotton bolls and then cleaning, carding, and spinning and weaving them. All ages are welcome at the event. A $5 recommended donation per person. Tin Punch for Kids and Adults: a Sam Houston Memorial Museum presentation and demonstration, from 9 a.m. to noon at Bear Bend Cabin, on the museum grounds. Museum staff will explore the use of tin during the Texas pioneer days, who created designs from the material to make things such as candle holders and pie safes to decorate their homes. Attendees will be able to try their hands at creating tin-punched crafts, beginning at 9 a.m., 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. All ages are welcome; although children must be accompanied by an attentive adult. Attendees are encouraged to bring a hammer or mallet if you have one. A $5 recommended donation per person.
