Decision Made On Sam Shuttle Service

A decision has been made to resume the Sam Shuttle for the fall 2010 semester with a reorganization of the shuttle service for the faculty, staff, and students. University officials will use the year to plan a new shuttle system that will be managed by Sam Houston State University.

“We realize there is a demand for this type of service for the SH community; however, because we were in a partnership with five other entities, we will now need to make our own decisions for additional funding sources, routes for the shuttle, peak times for ridership, location of stops and parking locations, various needs of each rider group, and a service provider,” said Heather Crowson, vice president for enrollment management.

Over the next few months, the campus community will be asked to provide information through student organizations, previous ridership questionnaires and historical parking and ridership patterns. SHSU will also collaborate with other institutions for best practices for this type of campus operation.

During this interim time, faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to use the Commuter Web site (http://www.shsu.edu/commuter/) for carpooling information. A communication board for finding other commuting SH faculty, staff, and students, as well as a carpooling savings calculator is listed.

Crowson said, “We believe with these positive changes, the new shuttle service will grow and become a vital part of our recruitment and retention efforts.”

Brian Domitrovic, assistant professor of history, was part of a panel that discussed the decline of the dollar and how to fix it on the Oct. 22 episode of CNBC's The Kudlow Report. Following the segment, Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who also appeared on the show, plugged Domitrovic's book Econoclasts. In addition, he was one of the experts who discussed the gross domestic product in a recent Public Radio International story.
