Theatre To Present Shakespeare’s ‘Twelfth Night’

The SHSU department of theatre and dance will recount William Shakespeare’s comical tale of mistaken identity in its presentation of “Twelfth Night” Nov. 1-4 and Nov. 8-11.

Show times are 8 p.m. each day, with a 2 p.m. Saturday matinee in the University Theatre Center’s Showcase Theatre.

Viola (Ashtyn Sonner) and Sebastian (Scott McCarrey) are twins who believe the other is dead after they are shipwrecked.

Upon arriving in the foreign land of Illyria, Viola disguises herself as a man. She is employed by Duke Orsino (Mike Sims) and falls in love with him.

Orsino, however, is in love with Lady Olivia (Colette Currie), who is grieving the death of her brother and is not interested in falling in love.

Olivia’s passions are aroused, however, when Viola, disguised as a man, arrives with a message from Orsino. She believes Viola to be a man and falls in love with her.

Matters are complicated further when Sebastian arrives in Illyria and is mistaken for the man his sister Viola is impersonating.

The show also features theatre and musical theatre majors Aaron Thacker as Malvolio; Glen Philip as Sir Toby Belch; Jeff Barba as Sir Andrew Aguecheek; Garrett Graham as Feste; Kristen Trahan as Maria; Marcus Cumby as Fabian; Addison Roush as Antonio; Johann Wood as Captain/Servant; Sam Weeks as Curio; William Ezzell as Valentine; Jared Pike as First Officer; Rocky Bobbit as Second Officer; David Vann as Priest; and Kent Coppock, Nicholas Custer, Teruhia Uchiyama, Shannon Holt, Angela Bell, and Monica Brown as the Globe Theatre Courtiers.

“Twelfth Night” is directed by theatre faculty member Ron Song Destro, with designers including theatre faculty members Gregg Buck, set; Kristina S. Hanssen, costumes; and theatre major designers Richard Chamblin, lighting; and Natalie Gasaway, hair and makeup.

The stage manager is musical theatre major Megan Blackmon, and the technical director is theatre major Craig Brossman.

Tickets are $8 general admission.

The play contains adult content, and children under the age of three will not be admitted.
