Texas Legislature Honors Ron Randleman

Ron Randleman
R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, Ron Randleman, the longtime head football coach at Sam Houston State University, announced his retirement at the conclusion of the 2004 season, drawing to a close an outstanding 36-year career in coaching; and

WHEREAS, Coach Randleman came to SHSU in 1982 after 13 successful seasons as head coach at William Penn University and Pittsburgh State University; during his impressive 23-year tenure, he established a career record of 132-124-3, won five conference championships, and became the all-time winningest coach in Southland Conference history; he leaves the coaching fraternity with an overall record of 219–166–6; and

WHEREAS, In his final season at the helm, Coach Randleman led the Bearkats through a spectacular 2004 season that included a school-record 11 wins, a first-ever appearance in the Division I-AA
semifinals, and the team's highest national ranking since the school moved to Division I in 1986; and

WHEREAS, Coach Randleman's career achievements include 12 selections as regional or conference coach of the year as well as tenure as president of the NCAA Division I-AA Football Coaches Association and the NAIA Football Coaches Association; he was elected to the Board of Trustees for the American Coaches Association in 1999 and also serves as a member of the NCAA Football Rules Committee; and

WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Coach Randleman has enjoyed the love and support of his wife, Margie; retirement will undoubtedly afford him the opportunity to spend more time with his family as well as indulge in his favorite leisure activities; and

WHEREAS, This esteemed leader and mentor has served Sam Houston State University with integrity and dedication, earning the deep respect of all who have been privileged to work with him, and it is a pleasure to recognize his outstanding career as he embarks on an exciting new chapter in his life; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby honor head football coach Ron Randleman on his retirement from Sam Houston State University and extend to him sincere best wishes for success and happiness in all his endeavors...
