Gerber Awarded Grant To Lecture In Russia

Jurg Gerber Jurg Gerber, professor of criminal justice at Sam Houston State University, has been awarded a Fulbright grant to lecture in sociology and criminal justice in Russia.

The announcement was made recently by the U.S. Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board.

In the College of Criminal Justice, Gerber has served as associate dean for academic administration, assistant dean for graduate programs, and assistant dean for undergraduate studies. His areas of specialization are white collar crime, drugs and drug control policy, and environmental crime.

He earned his master's degree and doctorate in sociology from Washington State University.

Gerber is one of approximately 2000 U.S. grantees who will travel abroad for the 2000-01 academic year through the Fulbright Program. Established in 1946 under legislation introduced by the late Sen. J. William Fulbright of Arkansas, the program's purpose is to build mutual understanding between the peoples of the United States and the rest of the world.

The Fulbright Program, America's flagship international educational exchange program, is sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, United States Department of State. For 54 years, Fulbright programs have exchanged nearly a quarter of a million people, including 86,000 Americans who have studied, taught or researched abroad, and more than 144,000 students, scholars and professionals from other countries who have engaged in similar activities in the United States.
