Dear SHSU Students,

Welcome back. After the illness incidents which took place two weeks ago, we wanted to bring you up to date on the findings so far and to tell you what steps we have taken to ensure your continued health and safety.

The Department of Health and ARAMARK have conducted extensive tests on the food and water in an effort to determine the cause of the illnesses. To date, there have been no conclusive findings as to that cause.

But, because of our commitment to you and your health, we have taken several proactive steps:

  • First, we have discarded any and all food that was open prior to Spring Break.
  • Second, all of our employees were tested for possible bacterial contamination and all test results were negative.
  • Third, there have been thorough cleanings of all of our locations (Cafe Belvin, Cafe Kirkley, The Paw Print, and the Huntsville Room) and the Department of Health has inspected all of them and has declared them safe.
  • Fourth, we have chosen to increase our employee training in safety and sanitation to further ensure the safety of the food from the time of delivery to the time of service.
  • Fifth, we have instituted a systematic process by which we test the food at various stages of production so that we can monitor its safety.
We continue to work closely with the Department of Health to determine the cause and will keep you informed of any conclusive findings.
