Texas Genetics Society
The Texas Genetics Society was established in 1974 as a nonprofit association whose purpose is to foster the development of all aspects of genetics, to promote the exchange of research results and the teaching of genetics, and to provide a forum for discussion of matters of interest to all geneticists. Membership is open to all persons interested in genetics research, the training of geneticists, and the delivery of genetic services.
TGS is directed by elected Officers and a Board of Directors who meet twice a year to plan the societys business. The annual meeting of the society is held in March or April at alternating sites in Texas Austin, College Station, Dallas, Galveston, Houston, San Antonio, and at other locations determined by the Board of Directors. At the meeting invited speakers present extended summaries of their research findings. In addition, students and post-doctoral members present research reports during platform and poster sessions. Awards are made for best undergraduate, graduate and post-doctoral presentations. The annual meeting affords opportunities for prospective graduate students and post-doctoral students to meet with faculty research advisors from Texas universities and medical schools.
At its annual meeting, the society recognizes a Distinguished
Texas Geneticist who has made significant contributions in the field of genetics.
Also named at the discretion of the President each year is the Distinguished Service Award presented to a
Society member who has made significant contributions to the Texas Genetics Society.
