Article 1: Membership A. Qualifications 1. All persons majoring or minoring in the criminal justice field will be considered for membership. 2. A GPA of 2.0 overall and 2.5 in the major field of study is required at all times. 3. The applicant, once accepted, must continually be enrolled in a criminal justice course of study at all times. 4. The applicant, once accepted, must maintain the above mentioned GPA at all times. At such a time as the member's GPA drops below these standards he will be given one (1) semester to raise it to the required level. Failure to do so, will result in being dropped from Delta Chi's membership. 5. Grade point requirements are not applicable to first semester freshmen. First semester freshmen on academic probation are ineligible for membership. B. Application Procedures 1. Applicants for membership must meet the requirements as set forth in the Grand Chapter bylaws, Delta Chi chapter bylaws, and by the Membership Committee. 2. Applicants must submit one chapter application and the required number of applications for the National Chapter as stated in the Grand Chapter bylaws. 3. Applicants will submit these applications to the Membership Committee Chairperson (Vice President) by the second general business meeting. Applications will no longer be accepted after this date. 4. In addition to the applications, applicants will submit the required remittance for both the Delta Chi and the National initiation fees by the fourth general business meeting. 5. There will be a one academic semester probation period (pledgeship) during which the membership of Delta Chi will observe all Probationary Members to determine their interest, through their participation and general attitude towards the goals and functions of L.A.E. The following requirements MUST be completed before the membership considers the Probationary Members and votes to either decline their membership in this organization or receive them as part of this organization, making them Active Participant Members, starting the first meeting of the following semester. a) 75% attendance to all general business meetings. b) Interviews of 75% of the Active Participant Membership (percentage can be adjusted by the Membership Committee). c) The required community service and fund-raisers as set forth by the Membership Committee. d) 60% attendance of all other functions such as committee meetings, interview parties, and any other activities set forth by the Membership Committee. e) Mandatory attendance of scheduled oral interview. 6. Probationary Members will be approved or disapproved upon majority vote of the Active Participant Members present at a meeting of approval. Requirements stated in Article I., Section B.S.a-d. must be met prior to this meeting. This meeting will be open to everyone except the Probationary Members. Alumni, Advisors, Social Affiliates and Members at Large are welcome to attend but can have no say in the approval or disapproval of Probationary Members. a) The voting for Probationary Members will be by ballot. b) The Sergeant at Arms will bring the Probationary Members before the voting body. c) The voting body will cast votes of approval or disapproval for each Probationary Member. d) The Sergeant at Arms will count the votes of approval for each Probationary Member. The Vice President will recount the vote in order to confirm the count of the Sergeant at Arms. e) The Probationary Members approved by a majority vote by the voting body will receive letters of acceptance inviting them to an induction ceremony where they will be recognized as Active Participant Members. Those not approved by a majority vote will receive a letter of denial. f) Application procedures can be adjusted by the Membership Committee Chairman (Vice President) with a majority vote of approval by the Membership Committee. C. Dues 1. All members will pay fees to include the following assessments: a) All applicants must pay an initiation fee to the Grand Chapter that includes the first year's per capita tax, fraternity pin, certificate, card and subscription to the L.A.E. National Journal for one year. b) Initiation and first semester dues to Delta Chi. c) All old members will pay one year dues to the Grand Chapter and one semester dues to Delta Chi. d) All dues must be paid by the fourth general business meeting. e) No dues will be refunded once paid after the fourth general business meeting. NO EXCEPTIONS. 2. Honorary members and retired members of the Delta Chi chapter shall be exempt from the payments of dues and assessments; these members will have all their fees paid for by the Delta Chi chapter. 3. The amount of dues will be determined by the Treasurer. 4. Payment of dues: a) The Membership Committee, in conjunction with the Treasurer, will inform all members who are delinquent in paying their dues to Delta Chi that they have one month to remit the complete amount owed before being removed from the chapter roster. b) The Executive Board will consider all application for reinstatement. c) Any N.S.F. check that is returned to Delta Chi will be charged a $20 service fee. D. Participation 1. 75% attendance is mandatory for members in business meetings; also, 60% attendance of all other official L.A.E. functions. 2. The roll sheet will be checked monthly. If a member has been absent from business meetings more than 25% of the time, or has failed to participate in 60% of all other official L.A.E. functions, he will be placed on a one month suspension period, and for this time will be considered a Suspended Member. 3. A letter will be sent to the person stating that his delinquency in attendance and participation has resulted in a probation period and that for this period he will be considered a Suspended Member. E. Transfer of Membership 1. A member of good standing of Delta Chi chapter who desired to affiliate with another chapter of his choice may do so by applying through the regular application forms. 2. Any member wishing to transfer his membership to Delta Chi must fulfill all chapter obligations. F. Withdrawal of Membership 1. A member in good standing of this chapter, against whom no charges are pending, may withdraw from the chapter at any time by giving written notification of his intentions to do so to the Sergeant at Arms.
