HISTORY |
Golden Key National Honour Society was founded on November 29, 1977 by James W. Lewis, an undergraduate at Georgia State University. Golden Key is an international honor society that recognizes students from all academic fields. Currently, there are 270+ active chapters across the U.S., New Zealand, South Africa, Australia, Canada. and Malaysia. Golden Key has recognized over 800,000 lifetime members and 11,000 honorary members. Since we have successfully expanded to so many other areas outside of the U.S., the Golden Key delegates that attended International meeting on August 4, 2000 voted to 'upgrade' our name to something that represented the Golden Key outreach: Golden Key International Honour Society, effective January 1, 2001. The SHSU chapter of Golden Key was chartered on April 28, 1981. Being
the second oldest chapter in the Southwest Region, the chapter has received
several awards including Key Chapter, Most Improved Chapter, and Honorable
Mention Key Chapter Awards. At the 2002 regional convention, SHSU walked
away with the Best Service Project and Best Honorary Member Support awards.
The chapter is currently a GOLD chapter. |
