Kids, Tweens, & Teens Clothing Swap is an opportunity for residents of the Villages of Huntsville to get ready for the back-to-school season by trading unwanted clothing items with other residents.  Volunteers are needed to collect clothes from residents, sort the items on tables based on gender/size, and to entertain families and children who are waiting before the swap begins.  Volunteers could also help serve food to those attending the swap.

9/11 Day of Service: Bearkats Remember is an opportunity for students, faculty, and staff to show their support for active military personnel by writing letters of support and encouragement.  The project will be located in the LSC Atrium from 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM.

PJammin' Party is an event to raise awareness and funds for children with cancer. All money will go to the American Childhood Cancer ORganization. Volunteers are needed to help with food, games, crafts, and clean up. Volunteers are also encouraged to wear their pajamas!

National Night Out is on October 7th at The Villages of Huntsville (145 Essex Blvd) from 6-8 PM. There will be a carnival theme, and volunteers are needed to serve food such as corn dogs, popcorn, and cotton candy.  Volunteers are also needed to run booths like ring toss, balloon pop, water balloon toss, and other games. NewLife is also looking for volunteers who can paint faces, make balloon animals, or who could bring some other carnival-type talent to the event.

St. Thomas Catholic Church Annual Bazaar is on October 19th at St. Thomas Catholic Church Volunteers will be primarily helping with children's games, so bring your enthusiasm and fun! SHSU student volunteers for this event should wear an SHSU shirt of some kind.  Click here to sign-up for this volunteer opportunity.

Halloween Carnival is on Saturday, October 25th. Volunteers are needed to help with set up, facilitating the event, and cleaning up after the event is over.  There will be fun games for the kids, a costume parade, and food. Two people are needed at each activity.  Someone is also needed to dress as a fortune teller ane predict a positive future for everyone.

The Great Muddy Escape is an event that benefits the YMCA and the Huntsville Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.  The event will be held on Saturday, October 25, at General Sam’s Off-Road Park in Huntsville.  Some volunteers may play the role of “Correctional Officer” and keep the “prisoners” in line as they run through treacherous mud pits and make their way through obstacles.  There are a variety of times for volunteering beginning at 6:30 a.m. on race day. Volunteers are also needed prior to the event for packet preparation on Thursday, October 23, and Friday, October 24, 5-7 p.m.  Click here to sign up and see what different volunteer areas are available!

Scare on the Square will take place Saturday, October 25th from 2:00 to 4:00 pm in Downtown Huntsville. Organizations are needed to sponsor craft or game booths that feature giveaways such as prizes or candy. Organizations are encouraged to be creative with their game choice, so that children have a variety of games to choose from. Click here for a Booth Registration form for your organization. Out of the Darkness Community Walk   is an annual event held in the Woodlands that raises money to support education, outreach, awareness, advocacy about suicide prevention. Turkey Camp is an event held during the week Huntsville ISD is closed for the Thanksgiving holiday.  Children will be given the opportunity to do crafts, read Thanksgiving stories, and share what they are thankful for.  Volunteers are needed to facilitate activities.

The Downtown Christmas Fair will be Saturday, December 6th from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm in Downtown Huntsville. For this event volunteers are needed to help out with various tasks (sign in table, kid corner, info booth, etc.). Volunteers are welcome to sign up for 1-2 hour time slots since the event is so long. Volunteers will be expected to attended a volunteer orientation approximately 1 week before the event in order to be organized and efficient the day of. 

Keep It Under Wraps is an event for volunteers to help residents of the Villages of Huntsville by wrapping Christmas gifts.  Elves are needed for two hours, 1-3 PM.  Please contact Kimberly with NewLife Alliance if you are ready to put on your elf hat.  All wrapping supplies will be supplied by NewLife Alliance. Just bring your best ribbon tying skills!  Happy Holidays!
