In July 2002, Joseph Magee, Ph.D. was
appointed the Director of Campus Ministry at the Catholic Student Center
at Sam Houston State University by the Diocese of
Galveston-Houston. Before coming to the CSC, Dr. Magee taught
philosophy for two years at the University of Saint Thomas in Houston.
Dr. Magee earned his B.A. in
philosophy at the Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology in
Berkeley, California, while a seminary student and Dominican
Friar. After the expiration of his temporary vows, he moved to
Houston to pursue graduate studies in the philosophy of Saint Thomas
Aquinas at the Center for Thomistic Studies at the University of Saint
Thomas. He earned his M.A. in 1993, and his Ph.D. in philosophy in

Dr. Magee met his wife Maria while at
UST, and they were married in 1994. Maria is the Director of
Development for Northwest Assistance Ministries (NAM), the largest
social service agency in northern Houston and Harris County.
Dr. Magee enjoys the sport of fencing
when he can find interested and equipped opponents, as well as
