A Lady of Alpha Kappa Alpha
I have come into my own
The light illuminates me
There is nothing that can stop the growth of a new Ivy
My God leads and carries me
As I have toiled through the struggle
Knowing I will see the light
At the end of my journey's dark tunnel
Sacrifices must be made
If I am to succeed
Learning about my humble beginning
From the Alpha 'till the ending
There is nothing left but to AKAcept
I am now an intricate part of nothing but the best
Not to belittle the rest
The First Lady sets the standard
Beautiful, intelligent, and oh so elegant
The greenest of Ivies
Climbing tall and reaching high
Not only am I a lady to be respected, honored, trusted, and feared
No one can measure my worth
Because it is measure in service over years
Sending praises to my Lord
And paying homage to those who paved my way
The unbreAKAble, irresistible, illustrious lady of AKA
Composed by Soror Andonnia Maiben "LyrAKAl Ivy," Theta Epsilon Chapter
AKA...and?
In 1908, Soror Lyle wanted to make things better
So she created an organization where black women could come together
Shoot, I don't know about you, but I think that was pretty clever
It started in Miner Hall, when the Ivy was on the wall
These women's talents were tall
And our beloved, splendid sixteen
Took on the challenge and held it to high esteem
The four incorporators were the real innovators
Made sure the dream could continue; after that, there could only be imitators
That AKA dream had us standing tall
Its been over 90 years, and with all the work we've done, is that all?
We ladies of AKA have style, elegance, and so much flair
We do our work with grace, class, and lots of care
We don't settle for less, we go for the top - the very best
We surpass all the rest, and if you don't know, put us to the test!
So if anyone asks you, "Girl, why do you look so grand?"
Why do you walk so tall? Why are you in such high demand?"
You just say, "I'm an AKA...and?"
Composed by Soror Crystal J. Leotaud, Pi Phi Omega Chapter
AKAtude
Conceited we're called
Because we stand tall
Uppity we're deemed
Due to our self-esteem
Our noses are always in the air
For looking downward we don't dare
And continue with pride
Realizing that if you're a lady
You're automatically downgraded
Sophistication and class is a plus
Although others don't view it as much
Their thoughts are so remote
But when we were founded
Women couldn't vote
Civil rights were a luxury
In the early 20th century
AKA was very political
Although they laugh and act very cynical
So remember the next time they jeer
You were the FIRST to be here
Erasing all that was not good
And replacing it with SISTERHOOD
Setting a trend for all the rest
Proving that they could be the very best
As ladies we must learn
Nothing is given, all is earned
With this in mind you'll ultimately find
That its a flair, its a mood
We call it AKAtude

The Phenomenal AKA
From afar onlookers glare
And some cannot help but stare
To her regal beauty no others can compare
Who is this classy lady?
Who could she be, they say?
None other than the epitome of grace & elegance
The essence of AKA
This lady of distinction is both bold & smooth
Even her "Ice Cold" brothers give her props
In spite of her AKAtude
When she steps into the place, her entrance is grand
Making even naysayers and playahaters stand
As her insouciant style illuminates the room
An Ivy in all her splendor, hailing in full bloom
You see, not many are privy
To the power of the pink prowess
In fact, most have opted to settle for less
Who is this classy lady?
Who could she be, they say?
I say it's none other than that educated, sophisticated, liberated soror of mine

A String of Twenty Pearls
Life would change forever in 1908
When a woman dared to dream so wild
And everyday since then, we take to heart her goal
The stride, the strength of Ethel Hedgeman Lyle
Oh Margaret, Marie, Lavinia, Lillie, Beulah, Anna, Lucy, Marjorie
Your contribution was so pristine, so supreme
That's why you mean so much to me
The sophomores were believers and joined a movement right
To carry out a vision fair
And even now today with sorors coast-to-coast
That very same vision we share
Oh Norma, Harriet, Sara, Carrie, Alice, Joanna, and Ethel Jones Mowbray
You paved the way as pioneers, transcended through the years
That's why you mean so much to me
How high can an Ivy grow
With roots so deep below
A sisterhood so divine
It's a rare pearl so hard to find
You live on vicariously, avoiding extinction
By merit and by culture too you've made a clear distinction
Oh Nellie Quander, Julia Brooks, Minnie Smith, and Nellie Pratt-Russell
Your contribution was so supreme, that's why you'll never know
How much you mean to me

Alpha Kappa Alpha Mystique
Beauty unparalleled, grace undefined
An Alpha Kappa Alpha woman is one of a kind
She walks in a room with her head held high
Acknowledgement of her presence is an awe-filled gaze, or admiring sigh
The Alpha Kappa Alpha woman is regal and profound
She is the essence of feminism and these qualities abound
The Alpha Kappa Alpha woman is honorable and oh so unique
All of these qualities culminated, created by the Alpha Kappa Alpha Mystique
