2011 Solo and Ensemble Workshop
A Coaching and Performance Workshop
with SHSU Music Faculty
Friday, January 28 and Saturday, January 29, 2011
The SHSU Solo and Ensemble Workshop is a excellent opportunity for high school students to receive coaching and instruction by SHSU Music Faculty as they prepare for Solo & Ensemble auditions.
The workshop will include
- Coaching sessions for ensembles
- Solo and Chamber Master Classes

Registration and What to Bring
A maximum of twelve (12) ensembles will be accepted. In order to register, pre-formed groups must first submit their information to Dr. Javier Pinell: (members names, instruments, year in school, and repertoire). Once accepted, each member can register online. Groups will be accepted on a first come first serve basis. There is a registration fee of $25 per student. On-site registration is NOT available for this event. Since the workshop also includes a master class for solo repertoire, participants should indicate in the initial email if they would like to be considered for performing in the solo master class (four students will be selected).
Registered students need to bring a music stand to be used throughout the workshop.
Meals will not provided, however there are several dining facilities within walking distance of the university.
Accommodations
Students and parents/chaperones who wish to stay overnight in Huntsville can make arrangements at any of the nearby hotels. The University also has a hotel conveniently located on campus
School of Music Auditions
The SHSU School of Music will hold admittance and scholarship auditions on Saturday, January 29. Please mark the appropriate box on the online application if you wish to audition. The requirements are: two contrasting movements from a sonata or concerto (music may be used).
