Music Composition Degree
Dr. Hanna's Japan Performance
Dr. Trent Hanna, Music Theory and Compositon Coordinator at Sam Houston State University, recently performed on two concerts in Yanago, Japan. He won the 2006 Contemporary Japanese and American Music Composition Competition, and was invited to perform in Japan at the Sakaiminato Symphony Garden Concert Hall. The afternoon concert began with four choral pieces by Isaac Nagao, the host of the competition. Following were two piano pieces by Amy Scurria (Virginia) and another piano piece by second place winner, Terry Owens (New York). Trent Hanna performed three original compositions for the second half of the concert, including Isle Royale, A Piece of Snow, and Dorland (I, II, and III), the winning piece of the contest. That evening, Trent performed a solo recital that included all of his compositions on his new CD entitled Sojournal.
