All
interested students are encouraged to
attend the conference, whether or not they are
presenting. Presentations will be accepted for a wide-variety of talks,
including by not limited to, undergradaute research, mathematics
history, mathematics education, and mathematics applications.
Undergraduate
students who pre-register by 16
October, 2009 and pay the $10 registration fee (made
payable to Jacqueline Jensen) will be eligible to have housing provided
(at the University Hotel) for the night of 6 November, be
invited to attend the pre-conference reception and game night
on 6 November, and be provided breakfast and lunch on
Saturday 7 November. Students requesting housing support will
be asked to share the room with at least one other student. Roommate
requests can be made on the registration form.
Goals
of the Conference
- Foster an interest in mathematics at all levels
- Provide undergraduates a forum in which to present
mathematical research or exposition
- Allow the students to see an address by a well-known
mathematician
- Provide undergraduates with information about
graduate school and careers in the mathematical sciences
- Provide students with an opportunity to interact with
like-minded students and faculty members, thereby introducing them to
the mathematical community
Structure
of the Conference
Students will be invited to present research in a fifteen minute talk.
The student presentations will be held in parallel sessions during
morning and afternoon. Prior to lunch, students will be welcomed and
will attend a plenary talk given by a well-known mathematician. The
afternoon will culminate with a panel discussion of an issue pertinant
to undergraduates interested in the mathematical sciences.

The Texas Undergraduate Mathematics Conference is committed to the
participation of all interested students.
We will be able to offer some support for expenses. Women, minorities,
and persons with disabilities are especially encouraged to participate
and to apply for support.
