Leader's Training Course

The Leadership Training Course or Basic Camp is a leadership oriented, challenging and motivating 5-week training program which serves as the Army's 2-year ROTC Program entry point. At Camp Challenge you can experience and examine the Army without incurring an obligation, and qualify for Advanced Course entry if you didn't take the ROTC Basic Course. During LTC, the Army observes and evaluates you to determine your officer potential.

Basic Camp philosophy is based on an action-oriented training plan. Emphasis is hands on, outdoor training with rapid, constructive feedback to you. Above all else, LTC is a leadership experience. The training program is designed to inspire you to become an outstanding leader with a sound understanding of traditional leadership values.

TRAINING AT THE LEADERSHIP TRAINING COURSE

Training at the Leadership Training Course (LTC) is built around small unit tactical training. You will gain individual confidence from completing the tough training. Platoon competition then develops a collective team cohesion. Training is sequenced in a logical, building-block manner. A "tiered" approach is used which allows for an ideal flow of training for each regiment. The training is organized into five operational areas:

LTC1-Operation True Grit – covers adventure training which builds both your self confidence and unit esprit-de-corps. -Operation Pathfinder – focuses on individual skills as a precursor to learning unit skills. You learn basic military skills in order to function as a small unit member. -Operation Gunfighter – centers on weapons training where you learn basic weapons skills necessary for progression to squad tactics.   Training begins with mechanical training, progresses through fundamentals of firing, the weaponeer device, shot grouping, zero, and    practice record firing. You may also receive familiarization training on other individual and squad level weapons. -Operation Future Challenge – introduces you to the diverse branches of the Army through the use of branch displays and exposure to advanced training technologies. The purpose is to familiarize you with the diversity of opportunities available in today's Army, and to help    you make an informed branch choice. -Operation Bold Challenge – is the camp's "Capstone Exercise." You are exposed to squad level operation where Cadre assess your    leadership ability in a field environment. The field training exercise (FTX) is intentionally tough and introduces the element of stress. Throughout the exercise, you encounter physical and mental obstacles which challenge you as a person, cadet, and leader.
