Only MS III cadets are eligible to attend following successful completion of Advanced Camp. Cadets spend three to five weeks serving in an Army unit in a lieutenant's position. The location and type (branch) of the unit varies widely, to include some assignments in overseas areas. Volunteers for CTLT can exercise some choice regarding the location and / or branch of the unit. CTLT slots are usually made available by units, which have a lieutenant's position vacant. Typically the unit commander receives the cadet just as he or she would an incoming new lieutenant. The cadet is assigned actual tasks and missions (and gets a "practice" Officer Evaluation Report). As a result, CTLT is usually a very rewarding experience for a cadet. SMP cadets are not eligible to attend CTLT
