MAJ Platt was assigned to Sam Houston State University’s ROTC program in September 2011. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science, Magna Cum Laude, from Texas A&M University in 2004 and was a Distinguished Military Graduate, commissioning through ROTC as a Second Lieutenant in the Transportation Corps. He also earned a Master’s Degree in Government (Terrorism and Homeland Defense) from Regent University in Virginia Beach, VA in 2008.
His military education includes the Transportation Officer Basic Course, the Unit Movement Officer Course, Anti-Terrorism Officer Levels 1 and 2, Contracting Officer’s Representative, Combat Life Saver, Support Operations Course Phase 1, and the Combined Logistics Captains Career Course.
MAJ Platt’s first assignment was as a Platoon Leader and then Executive Officer in the 159th Port Operations Cargo Company, 11th Transportation Battalion at Fort Story, VA. He then served as the Adjutant for the 11th Transportation Battalion during its 15 month deployment to Camp Adder, Iraq overseeing active duty, Reserve, and National Guard Soldiers and units conducting a convoy security mission. Upon the battalion’s return, he assumed duties as the Battalion S2/3. He then transferred to the District of Columbia National Guard and supported various events such as the 2010 Nuclear Security Summit, where he served as the DC National Guard’s Liaison in the Joint Operations Center at Fort McNair’s Joint Forces Headquarters-National Capital Region. He regularly supported the Army Operations Center’s Crisis Action Team in the Pentagon as a CENTCOM Desk Officer. In his civilian job, he worked for the Department of Homeland Security’s Office for Bombing Prevention. He then spent a year on active duty as an Assistant Professor of Military Science and Recruiting Operations Officer at Old Dominion University ROTC in Norfolk, VA.
MAJ Platt has also served as an Adjunct Lecturer in the Department of Political Science teaching American Government and Public Policy courses.
MAJ Platt’s military awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal (3 OLC), Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Ribbon, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Army Superior Unit Award, and the Army Staff Identification Badge.
