*SAMentors is a mentoring and leadership organization sponsored by
Multicultural and International Student Services (MISS) and dedicated to
helping freshmen and transfer students make successful transitions into
college.  "Mentors" are upperclassmen involved in the organization and
"Protégés" are freshmen and transfer students who are paired with
upperclassmen.  The organization is non-discriminatory and welcomes members of all races, ethnicities, genders, sexual orientations, social and economic backgrounds.
*The purpose of SAMentors is to aid the social and academic transitions of
freshmen and transfer students into college life at Sam Houston State University.
*The goal of the organization is to maintain freshmen and transfer student
retention as members are encouraged to continue to become involved after
their first year at SHSU as mentors in the organization.  SAMentor Protégés
(freshmen and transfer students) learn valuable leadership skills by being
lead first by their mentors.  Members of SAMentors are required to maintain
a 2.25 GPA and participate in all SAMentor social and academic events.
