Authorship: Moss is a Summa Cum Laude graduate in English literature, with an M.S. in Instructional Technology. She was a Senior Editor of Language Arts at BFA Educational Media. She has also been a consultant on the development of films for young audiences. Wilson earned a doctorate in Education. Scope and Coverage: The source allows parents, teachers, librarians, media directors, and students to select films that have been adapted from popular literature for young people. Included are more than 750 literary works and information on more that 1400 16mm films, videos, or laser discs adapted from these works.
Purpose: The source documents the link between a given film/video and the literary work on which it was based. For guidance in selecting the literature included within the text, the authors relied on the recommendations of state education agencies as well as practicing educators and librarians. The resulting collection ranges from classic to contemporary literature. Folklore, short stories, novels, plays, songs, poems, and nonfiction books addressed to preschool through twelfth grade audiences are included. In selecting the film adaptations of the books, the authors' goal was to provide a comprehensive collection of 16mm, video, and laser disc renditions. Included are adaptations that employ various cinematic techniques, from iconographic to live action to animation.
Arrangement: The source is conveniently organized alphabetically according to the titles of the literary works.
Physical Characteristics: The publication utilizes a hard cover format measuing 6 x 9 inches. It has a durable library binding and is printed on acid-free paper that meets the minimum requirements of the American National Standard for Information Sciences--Permanence Paper for Printed Library Materials. In additional, the print size is easily readable, using such devices as boldface type and italicized print.
