Recording Audio CDs With Adaptec's
Easy-CD Audio
Starting Easy-CD Audio
-
In Windows 95, click the START button located on
the left side of the taskbar
-
Select PROGRAMS, point to [name of CD recording unit],
and select MAKE MUSIC CDs
-
Easy-CD Audio Wizard window appears
Using the Easy-CD Audio Wizard
-
Start Easy-CD Audio
-
Follow the on-screen instructions in the Wizard windows
-
A list of audio tracks you are adding to planned
CD appears in main Easy-CD Audio window
-
A final message box notifies you when the recording
is complete
Recording Audio Tracks from an Existing CD
-
Select NEW CD LAYOUT from the File menu or open an
existing CD layout
-
Click the AUDIO CD LAYOUT tab: The top part of the
window is Windows Explorer, from where tracks can be selected for recording.
The bottom part is the Audio CD Layout window, where the contents of the
CD layout can be viewed. A click-and-drag operation makes it possible to
change the order of tracks in the layout.

Insert source CD, which contains the tracks to be
recorded, into CD-RW drive [It is possible to record directly from a CD-ROM
drive only it it supports digital audio extraction]

In the Explorer section of the window, select the
drive where the source CD is located to view the list of tracks on the
CD
-
Drag the tracks to be recorded from Explorer to the
Audio CD Layout window [To change name of a track, select it Audio CD Layout
window, select RENAME in the Track menu, and type new name in the text
box]

Repeat three prior steps for each existing CD from
which tracks are being recorded

Select CREATE CD from File menu when all desired
tracks placed in Audio CD Layout window
-
CD Creation Setup box appears
-
Makes changes, if any, to CD Creation Setup settings
and click OK
-
Easy-CD Audio begins recording CD layout to a blank
CD
-
Insert a blank CD when prompted
-
A final message box indicates when recording is complete
Recording Wave Files Stored on Hard Drive
-
Insert a blank CD into CD-RW drive
-
Select NEW CD LAYOUT from the File menu or open an
existing layout
-
Click AUDIO CD LAYOUT tab
-
Select Wave files to be recorded from Explorer and
drag them to Audio CD Layout window
-
If necessary, repeat renaming process outlined in
previous section
-
Select CREATE CD from the File menu when tracks to
be recorded added to CD layout
-
CD Creation Setup box appears
-
Make changes, if any, to CD Creation Setup settings
and click OK
-
Easy-CD Audio begins recording CD layout to a blank
CD
-
A final message box indicates when recording is complete
Pre-recording Audio Tracks to Wave Files
A. Advantages:
-
Minimizes swapping CDs in and out of drive if more
than one copy is desired
-
Makes possible adding sound effects to customize
song
-
Can improve sound quality if CD recording system
less than optimal
-
B. Can pre-record one Wave file at a time. Pre-recording consists
of the following steps:

Insert source CD [use of other software--e.g., minidiscs,
vinyl records, audiocassettes--requires modification of these steps], which
contains tracks to be pre-recorded to hard drive, into CD recorder

Click AUDIO CD LAYOUT tab
-
Select audio track to be pre-recorded from Explorer
and drag it into Audio CD Layout window
-
Highlight audio track inAudio CD Layout window
-
Select PRE-RECORD to WAV FILE from the Track menu
[Note: Pre-recording audio tracks to Wave files requires approximately
10 MB of hard drive memory for one minute of music]

Type in file name for Wave file and choose a different
location on hard drive if you don't wish to record Wave file to Temp directory
-
Click SAVE
-
Easy-CD Audio pre-records Wave file to hard drive
-
A final message box indicates when recording is complete
Note: It is possible to generate a CD containing
tracks from both pre-recorded Wave files stored on hard drive and from
audio tracks on an existing CD.
